About Shamanic Journeying
Shamanic journeying is a practice dating back to prehistoric times and likely practiced by all peoples all over the world, so it is a practice present in our collective human ancestry, although with many variations from culture to culture. The word shamanism comes from the Tungus tribe in Siberia and means to ‘see in the dark’. Shamanic journeying is the practice of going into a meditative like state to ‘journey’ to the unseen realms of non-ordinary reality for healing, guidance and wisdom. Shamanism is a practice of ‘direct revelation’, giving each of us the opportunity to access experiences of healing and wisdom for ourselves without needing an intermediary. The realms of non-ordinary reality are home to beneficial helping guides, nature spirits, power animals and spiritual masters who we can connect with directly during a ‘journey’.
To enter the non-ordinary realms, one of the most common methods is to use a steady drum beat that comfortably and safely changes our brain waves from the active beta state to the relaxed and meditative alpha and theta states.
During a shamanic journey session, you lie down comfortably on a yoga mat and cover your eyes so that you are better able to see the visions of your journey. A drum beat guides you on your journey and back again. In an introductory workshop, you are given clear and simple instructions on how to journey safely.
The shamanic journeying experience I offer is not a religious practice, it is a spiritual and well-being aid and suitable for everyone.
