Home or land Blessing with a Haywariqui Ceremony

A Haywariqui (hy-war-ee-ki), also known as a Despacho, is a sacred offering ceremony originating from the heart of the Andean mystical traditions of Peru. Haywariqui means "to bring into right relationship" or "to bring into harmony." During this ceremony, we create a lovingly crafted prayer bundle, a physical manifestation of gratitude and intention that serves as a bridge between our physical world and the guiding and supportive world of spirit.

Light, joyful energy in our home space is vital to our health and well-being. A Haywariqui ceremony is a powerful way to cleanse, re-harmonize, and empower this energy. The ceremony is an act of gratitude to Mother Earth and other Nature beings, inviting blessings of protection, abundance, health, and loving connection into your space.

From the first time I attended a Haywariqui ceremony a few years ago, I fell in love with the magic created! My training in Andean mysticism with Joan Parisi Wilcox and Juan and Ivan Nuňez del Prado introduced me to the workings behind this beautiful way of creating offerings, and my love for this process has only continued to grow.

What to Expect During the Ceremony

The ceremony is a gentle, meditative experience lasting 1.5 to 2 hours. I will create a sacred and safe container for the process.

Opening & Intention Setting: We will begin by sitting in a circle (if with family/group) to quiet our minds, open our hearts, and set a collective

intention for the blessing. Building the Despacho: Layer by layer, we will co-create the offering on a large piece of paper with symbolic natural or biodegradable items. Examples of items to be offered include sweets for the sweetness of life, grains for abundance, a crystal for clarity, and flowers for beauty, each with their specific meanings. Each item is infused with heart and intention.

Personal Contributions: You and your household members are invited to actively participate by offering items and whispering your personal prayers into the offering, making it uniquely powerful for your home. These contributions should be small, natural or biodegradable, and chosen with care for their representation. You may also wish to write small notes on pieces of paper or make small drawings representing what you would like to manifest with the ceremony. For example, a drawing of a happy household or the words ‘loving home,’ ‘peaceful home space,’ etc.

Closing & Offering: Once the bundle is complete, it will be ceremonially wrapped and tied. We will then offer it back to the Earth by burying it in anatural place near your home or by burning it and offering it up to the spirit world, completing the cycle of reciprocity (Ayni).

How to Prepare for Your Home Blessing

To ensure the energy of your home is open and receptive, you are encouraged to:

Tidy: Cleaning and tidying the main spaces helps the physical energy flow.

Set Your Intentions: Reflect on what you wish to call into your home and what you wish to release.

Decide on ceremony location: We will need a small, central area on the floor, either inside or outside, where we can sit and build the despacho.

Gather offerings: Have small items that represent your wishes for your home or representations of your family to include in the offering. Examples: flowers, flower petals, a special rock or crystal, grains, spices, special items of significance (for example, ghee, sacred plants, cacao)

Offering and celebration: Decide on a location to either bury or burn the despacho bundle at the end of the ceremony. Please prepare the location in advance by either digging a small hole (30 cm squared) or preparing a small fire. After the burning of the despacho, it is customary for the household to celebrate in a joyful way, perhaps with something sweet to eat or drink.
